Following these simple steps will ensure that sub-standard service will be received and that the relationship between one being served and one being of service will be strained at best:
- Be condescending. Every person in a service-related industry likes to be reminded how much lower their status is. This will motivate them to "get a real job".
- Stay on your cell phone. The conversation with the person on the other end of the line is so much more important than establishing eye contact with the live person trying to take care of business; service employees know how much people need to be on the phone or texting at all times.
- Make a huge mess. Employees live to clean up clothing thrown all over the floor, dirty diapers, and smudges of unidentifiable baby goo. Hey, it's job security, right?
- Don't tip, especially if you live in a small community. This is important, because this way service personnel can communicate with each other and let each other know which customers don't want or expect good service.
- Finally, just be plain rude in the hopes that the service worker will be rude in return. A complaint can be lodged to management, the corporate office, or the CEO of the company in the hopes that free merchandise, food, or coupons will be issued in order to reinforce the behavior. Everybody wins!
